Responsible for strategic advice and portfolio management for three of the Council's six portfolios:-Hazard, Risk and Resilience,-Transport & Urban Development, and-Air QualityMy areas of focus included:- Leading the design and implementation of Council's new 'Climate Change Integration' Programme, to ensure a robust and consistent approach to incorporating climate change into all of the Council's work and decisions. - Responsible for a collaborative project (with 10 district councils and Ngāi Tahu) to develop a Climate Change Risk Assessment (Screening) for the Canterbury region, based on the Ministry for the Environment's National Climate Change Risk Assessment Framework.- Commissioning strategic advice for Council on options to achieve net zero organisational emissions in a way which delivers maximum co-benefits.- Advising on the approach to the declaration of a Climate Change Emergency in May 2019 (Environment Canterbury was the first council in NZ to make such a declaration).- Management of Environment Canterbury's contribution to the North Canterbury Earthquake (2016) recovery. This included representing Environment Canterbury on the NCTIR Restoration Liaison Group, which ensured that environmental, ecological and cultural issues were appropriately addressed during the rebuild of the coastal transport corridor. Also of particular note, our work to support the Kaikoura Harbour Remediation was nationally recognised through the SOLGM Collaborative Government Action Award in 2018. -Enabling a more strategic approach to regional transport planning and investment management, including through the development of an outcomes framework and scorecard for the Canterbury Regional Land Transport Plan.
