This was my "solepreneurship" company. Clients included lightbank, the Northwestern University Biomedical Informatics Center and many seed-funded or Series A companies in the Chicagoland area. As well as, through a partnership, different companies based in Los Angeles; typically in the entertainment industry.

We worked in support of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and others of the department to create what later were called, in popular parlance, "minimum viable products". Heavy numerical analysis work on very large sets of data. We utilized a full MSDN stack for almost every project. SQL Server, ADO .NET, ASP .NET were some of the technologies. I handled back-end data analysis and design for a very large scale software system which was responsible for retrieving and storing highly sensitive financial information for millions of clients. We used a full Microsoft stack. SQL Server, ASP .NET, C#, SSRS, et cetera. I was primarily responsible for the back-end.

We were using what were experimental protocols (SIP, RSVP, etc) and designing them straight from RFCs to compete against what was then a little known product, Skype. Our system was for the enterprise user and therefore had to be built from the ground-up with extremely tight security and real-time constraints in mind. Funding dried up. We utilized Microsoft products wherever possible and C/C++ in places where low-latency was a must.

Worked under Professor Ralph Johnson to create cost-effective data visualization tools for large Chicagoland area corporations who were dealing with antiquated software and had data mining needs. We utilized VisualAge for Java, Swing, AWT, a lot of Java libraries no longer in popular use.

I had to bring to reality the work of many Ph.D. students and professors. They came up with the ideas and concepts. I had to figure out how to implement them. I typically wrote projects in C++, C and Scheme before focusing exclusively on Java implementations. Java was seen as a panacea back then.
