About Sam Grawe

As Herman Miller's Global Brand Director I led newly established creative and communications teams at Herman Miller to help transform a venerated legacy B2B company into a lifestyle brand with relevance for twenty-first century consumers. Herman Miller’s historic approach to human-centered design served as a springboard to new possibilities and programs as we brought the brand to life digitally, in print, and at live events. As an executive, I worked closely with leadership to craft the company’s new mission, brand positioning, corporate values, and brand architecture. I am a strategic thinker and communicator who is comfortable in uncharted territory, guiding work internally and externally, and collaborating with everyone from interns to the CEO. Prior to Herman Miller, I served in a variety of roles at Dwell Magazine—including a five-year stint as Editor-in-Chief—as it rose from a print start-up to a National Magazine Award winner and Smithsonian National Design Award finalist. My experience combines brand design, strategy, editorial, integrated marketing, social media, communications, advertising, video, digital, and exhibition design, with a deep knowledge of—and connections with—the design world. My passion lies in developing the next generation of creative leaders, while undertaking innovative work that is fulfilling both creatively and commercially.
