The original apps were running in a custom compute environment built using Scala to use referential transparency and bitemporality to bring compute efficiency gains. The apps were split such that there was one to do data extraction and handle business logic, written in Java for developer-fungibility, and another to handle the persistence operations, written in Scala.2018: Lead the development of a backend data service as part of a wider renovation of how the team builds UIs with the wider goal to reduce the development effort required to deploy a new UI on existing reference data systems. The platform was generic and configurable, allowing a new UI to be deployed with only a configuration change. The team is distributed globally.Developed SME level knowledge on caching technologies in order to build a responsive platform with a view into very large datasets.Core technologies: Java 8, Spring, Elasticsearch, Gemfire, REST, Containerisation.2017: Worked on a new critical high-profile internal service to support the firms regulatory obligations to comply with new MiFID II regulations. The system required a very tight and predictable response time and stored a large volume of unstructured data in a globally distributed and consistent data store with sub-millisecond lookups.
