“I TAKE APART THE PALLETS, SO OTHERS CAN BUILD.” Growing up, I spent countless hours with my grandfather, who taught me many lessons and greatly impacted my life. It was during these times where my leadership skills and work ethic began to develop.My grandfather loved woodworking and would get wood pallets from different businesses, take them apart, and repurpose them for other uses. During these times, my grandfather taught me many life lessons and skills that have benefitted me throughout my life. I spent countless hours taking pallets apart and bending out nails so that they could be re-used.My grandfather was born in 1928 and grew up in a sharecropper family during the depression with his eight other siblings. Different events that occurred during my grandfather’s life caused him to be a very resourceful man. This trait was one of his key attributes throughout his life.His resourcefulness became apparent to me in the summer of 1997 when we built a barn with the wood pallets that he had been collecting over the years. All of the countless hours of taking pallets apart now yielded a magnificent structure done in a very cost-effective manner.My grandfather understood that having me take pallets apart would help develop and build me into a productive and resourceful man who would appreciate the small things in life.I love to provide the tools, resources, and lessons learned to help others feel valued and achieve.
