Senior Medical Classification Specialist (Subject Matter Expert)
CurrentAs part of the Cancer Statistics Section I am primarily responsible for the evaluation and implementation of changes to cancer diagnosis coding and cancer staging standards, and the collection of this data for the administration of the Canadian Cancer Registry. In this role, I:- Lead the annual implementation of changes to cancer diagnoses coding and cancer staging standards in Canada through collaboration with the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) and the Canadian Council of Cancer Registries (CCCR).- Review changes to ICD-10, ICD-O, SEER Solid Tumour Rules, AJCC TNM Staging, NAACCR Edits Metafile, etc. - Liaise with Provincial and Territorial Cancer Registries to assess feasibility, value to data users, and risks of non-adoption of changes to cancer coding and staging standards in Canada.- Lead the annual development of documentation for Provincial and Territorial Cancer Registries outlining specifications for data collection and transfer to the Canadian Cancer Registry.- Facilitate meetings for two sub-committees of the CCCR: one focused on training and education; one focused on resolving discrepancies and promoting adherence to standards for cancer coding and staging.- Coordinate two teams involved in the maintenance of a closed website for external partners and stakeholders. - Manage a data quality indicators dashboard to provide insights into quality of data submitted to the Canadian Cancer Registry.
