I taught one section of the Structural Systems I and Structural Systems II courses at NSAD during the 2015-2015 academic year, and one section of Structural Systems I in the 2016-2017 academic year.

Department Of Structural Engineering

I worked on a Caltrans-sponsored research project under Dr. José Restrepo and Dr. P. Benson Shing. The focus of the project was to study the seismic demand on sacrificial bridge abutment shear keys during moderate to extreme earthquakes, and how these components can be better designed to act as structural fuses during such events.

I served as the Senior Teaching Assistant for the Department of Structural Engineering. This entailed scheduling, developing, and presenting quarterly teaching assistant (TA) training sessions, keeping track of ABET accreditation-related documents, and serving as a mentor and adviser for the other TAs in the department.

I served as one of two teaching assistants for SE 103, Conceptual Structural Design. The course was a third-year undergraduate class focusing on tying together the concepts learned in the mechanics sequence (Statics, Dynamics, Vibrations) with Solid Mechanics in order to develop a basis for conceptual design of structures. My duties included attending lectures, preparing homework assignments and solutions, developing exam questions and solutions, holding office hours and review sessions, and facilitating weekly laboratory sections. I was also a TA for this course during Fall quarter 2010.

I taught Structural and Earthquake Engineering topics to advanced California high school students enrolled in the UCSD COSMOS Cluster 4: Earthquakes in Action program. This included preparing and giving lectures on engineering concepts, developing and executing hands-on demonstrations and activities, and facilitating the students' completion of their final projects. Additionally, I advised two undergraduate assistants who worked for the program. I served in a similar capacity for this program during the Summer of 2010.

I served as one of two teaching assistants for the undergraduate course SE 101C / MAE 103C - Mechanics III: Vibrations. My duties included attending lectures, preparing homework assignments and solutions, developing exam questions and solutions, grading exams, holding office hours and review sessions, and developing and implementing a final project for the class. I was also a TA for this course during Spring quarter 2010.

I served as one of three teaching assistants for the undergraduate course SE 101B / MAE 103B - Mechanics II: Dynamics. My duties included attending lectures, preparing homework assignments and solutions, developing exam questions and solutions, grading exams, and holding office hours and review sessions. I was also a TA for this course during Winter quarter 2010.

I served as one of three teaching assistants for the undergraduate course SE 101A / MAE 103A - Mechanics I: Statics. My duties included attending lectures, preparing homework assignments and solutions, developing exam questions and solutions, grading exams, and holding office hours and review sessions.

During my senior year I served as the Administrative Coordinator for the Quad area residential staff. My roles included all of those required of Resident Assistants (RAs), as well as the management and oversight of the 14 other RAs on staff. This involved close collaboration with the Resident Director (RD) to facilitate large-scale programs, provide support and advice to the RA staff members, and to serve as a liaison between the residential and Honors Village staffs.

I worked as an RA in the Quad area residence halls (appx. 400 total students) during my sophomore and junior years. Each year I was directly responsible for facilitating the healthy transition to college living of 30 undergraduate males, and was indirectly involved in the same process for 30 females on the same floor of the building. The job entailed the development and implementation of engaging programs for students, working on a staff of 14 other RAs, serving as a role model and counselor for students, and performing all administrative duties as required.
