My role focusses on developing new measures of economic progress, called Inclusive Income, that build on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to incorporate the flow of benefits from natural capital and human capital. I’m also responsible for developing new measures of sustainable development, called Inclusive Wealth, as recommended in The Dasgupta Review into the.

I was promoted on a temporary basis to lead a team of economists to develop new indicators of economic progress, called Inclusive Income, that go beyond Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In this role, I led the delivery of multiple projects related to ONS’s Beyond GDP programme. Specifically, I led the project to identify and estimate the economic flows of UK.

My role involved working closely with ONS’ Deputy Chief Economist to research and develop new measures of sustainable economic welfare called “Inclusive Income” that expand on the current measure of GDP by including natural (environmental) capital and human capital.My role also involved working as part of a team of economists to provide economic appraisal.

I managed the weekly sampling process for the COVID-19 Infection Survey. My role included monitoring the number of swab and blood samples collected in the UK against targets, drawing a stratified sample to invite new people to the survey and providing operational analysis for senior ONS colleagues. I also chaired the weekly Sampling Governance Meeting.

I was the Product Owner for a new system to process traditional prices data with alternative data sources such as scanner (point-of-sale) data and data ‘scraped’ from the web to completely transform the Consumer Prices Index. I specified the methods and requirements for this system and worked in an Agile manner to oversee the build and direct a team of.

Promoted within the Regional GDP team, I directed a team of developers and oversaw the build of a new system to process HMRC VAT turnover microdata for ONS’s new, quarterly Regional GDP figures. I specified the methods to regionalise the VAT data using the Inter-Departmental Business Register, conducted the user acceptance testing and worked in an Agile.

I led the work to determine the methods for using HMRC VAT turnover microdata and the Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR) to develop new, quarterly Regional GDP figures. I collaborated with teams across ONS to secure the historic IDBR data and specified the methods for creating a longitudinal dataset of the IDBR which was crucial for producing.

Based in the Economic Advice and Analysis division, my main responsibilities included contributing analysis to the monthly Prices Economic Commentary publication and coordinating ONS's quarterly Economic Review article. I also had responsibility for line managing economics placement students and chairing ONS's weekly Economist Group Briefing.
