Responsibilities:• Use relevant machine learning and statistical tools to extract knowledge from healthcare data- particularly sci-kit learn and scipy in python. • Manage, Organize, Clean healthcare data in SQL. • Provide insightful visualizations of data particularly using Edward Tufte’s minimal ink to data approach. • Contribute insight and lend support to projects across the team. Projects:• Revealing patterns in HIV viral load data and classifying patients via a novel machine learning cluster summarization method --Proposed a feature extraction method to categorize asynchronous viral load data, along with proposing a novel Centroid cluster summarization algorithm. We found five distinct viral load patterns using hierarchical clustering and tested the stability of the results by applying radially normalized classification on partially retained viral load data from the Centroid results, found by the smallest enclosed disk method. • Find the factors impacting therapy response of HIV patients -- Applied sequence mining on provider networks of responders and nonresponders and found a difference in positively associated sequences between each group, via their support and confidence. Also applied and compared an array of machine learning algorithms (Random Forests, Neural Networks, SVM, k-NN, LDA, Logistic Regression) on patient statistic and demographic data and surprisingly found that location (poverty and income levels) is not a significant effector on response. • Analyze the behavior of Network Graphs via edge weight data -- Applied method of Clauset et al. to test network degree distributions for goodness of fit with a power law distribution on provider (PPN) and organizational (OON) healthcare networks. Found that the two networks adhered to two different types of power law distributions with statistical significance, perhaps due to geographic constraints and physical limits on the OON.
