About Samiran De

I have a passion for anything Supply Chain. Working with the warehouse staff of my client, helping with pick list information, refining the returns process is what first inspired me to be a Supply Chain professional six years ago.Fast forward two years and I was a planner, buyer and scheduler for a total of 5 manufacturing lines at a plant. The learner in me was getting fed from a firehose and I grew tremendously. I struggled through unexpected material shortages due to strike on the West coast ports, and lived with the uncertainty of whether forecast will materialize. I have dug out, analyzed data and presented information to Operations to justify adding another shift. In order to reduce cycle time, I have worked with the shop floor staff to improve efficiency on the lines and led Six sigma project to reduce overtime spend. Then there were times when after following up with suppliers and convincing plant leadership to let my line run overtime I had to consciously decide to take delivery hits so that an important customer does not get shut down. No zone was comfort zone. But every day I returned home happy knowing every box we shipped out had my contribution all over it.Throughout my life I have felt the drive to push myself so that I can achieve what I want. That includes anything from becoming a paragliding pilot to leaving a well paid job of 5 years to do graduate studies in Supply Chain Management.My biggest strength is my positivity. I believe that I can. I can see the best in almost any situation and strongly believe that every problem is a solution turned the other way round. I am a deep thinker and love finding solutions to problems. I keep my grey cells busy outside of work by playing chess, which I fervently enjoy.

I also design new and improved Supply Chain processes based on the new capabilities achieved through the project. I help resolve conflicts between the central team and the plant teams.I am currently leading a 6S project to develop the capability to measure the accuracy and relevance of our critical supply chain parameters which we use in our ERP, spanning the areas of Planning, BOM, Routing and Sourcing.

I used my expertise to help the plant manage its supply chain better. I defined business processes around Scheduling, Supply Planning and Exception Management, Flow and Discrete Manufacturing at 2 plants. I designed the processes with a goal of simplification and stability in the supply chain and ensured there is active participation from the business process owners. After I defined the processes and they were agreed upon, I trained the key stakeholders on the new processes and how to perform the entailed tasks. I made use of supply chain analytics to identify areas where we can improve, such as better forecasting, better inventory management, reduced supplier lead times, lower MOQs, etc.After the changes were decided upon, I also planned for change management. I went through gaps between current processes and the future processes and estimated the additional resources required and provided my recommendation to plant leadership. When the plant ran into any issues in their supply chain performance or planning, I was the first person, along with my manager, where they came looking for help.I created reports for supply chain leadership through which complex data was powerfully conveyed in a succinct manner. One assignment which I am particularly proud of was creating a process in which true capacity, true demand and forecast are all presented simultaneously for easy comparison. This helped us plan for capacity ahead of demand.
