Project Description: The Federal government has announced a 2 Billion Tree program. The City of Ottawa may apply for funding under the program to bolster rural tree cover. If so, then the City needs to identify and prioritize areas for the planting of trees to ensure the greatest benefit. Summary: Primarily responsible for computing tree planting locations under the 3 billion Federal Tree Planting Project across rural Ottawa while assuring suitability for operationalization and meeting the needs of environmentally endangered areas.• Computed over 6427 acres of land for tree planting in rural Ottawa across 5 priority classes.• Developed and implemented project criteria analysis tasks in accordance with Ontario Environmental Assessment (EA), Federal Impact Assessment and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines.• Developed appropriate evaluation criteria and methodology, considering factors such as existing land cover and land-use, land ownership, environmental constraints, potential ecosystem services, the City’s natural heritage system of core natural areas and linkages, and water protection areas.• Operationalized ISO 14000’s standards in the project goals to concretize environmental safety through management and technical systems.• Collaborated with multidisciplinary project stakeholders including arborists, city planners, scientists, and geospatial technologists to ensure project standards.• Provided support in development of reports and presentations to city planners in multi-disciplinary projects, client meetings and proposals.• Performed various ArcGIS Raster Calculations and geospatial analysis models using SQL entries to map optimal locations for tree planting across rural Ottawa.• Conducted data management tasks to elevate the quality of the product and ensure ease of access to resulting raster and shapefiles.
