The Accelerate Fellowship was an intensive hands on seven-week summer program in Los Angeles, New Orleans and the Rio Grande Valley. Fellows gained skills in diversity, equity and inclusiveness, executive communication, problem solving, consulting and core leadership development. Fellows worked with 3 partner organizations, forging relationships and solving meaningful issues with leaders in social and private sectors. Additionally, Fellows utilized human centered design to create innovative solutions for three complex regional challenges and pitched solutions to local and national experts and community members.Selected as an inaugural fellow from a national pool of over 500 student leaders (8% acceptance rate). LA rotation:Worked with Parent Revolution to conduct in-depth research on the LA public school system (LAUSD) to find examples of education inequity based on location. Created a toolkit of facts using data from 135 of the lowest performing California schools.New Orleans rotation:Worked with Operation Spark to create the OpSpark Web Design Fellowship to provide students experience creating websites for small/local New Orleans businesses. Created and pitched a logic model, evaluation model, implementation plan, one-pagers, budget, marketing materials, and wrote grants.Rio Grande rotation:Worked with LUPE to create an e-course for high school counselors to navigate the college application process and the TASFA for students who are eligible for DACA.
