About Sam Makkar

Alongside being a current student at UBC, I am also an experienced communications and operations professional with a passion for wide-scale events, education programs, social media, sports, travel, and even fashion! I thrive on communication and collaboration, and I am dedicated to fostering a positive environment in any of my endeavours to leave them better than when I started. I have been gaining communication and operations experience for many years with some of my earliest experiences spanning across the non-profit, for-profit and political sectors. I have previously founded my secondary school’s first-ever mental health support club, founded and facilitated fundraiser banquets that collectively raised over $50K for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, shadowed my hometown city’s now mayor and MLA, and served as the youngest director ever on the board of my local provincial political riding association. Recently, I have worked as a residence advisor for EF International and as a brand representative and content coordinator for The Calendar. I am currently working as the Director of External Relations for The Calendar! With many years of experience in projects, branding, marketing and development, I have developed a strong skill set in leadership, public relations and strategic planning to name a few.
