Day-to-day responsibilities include cleaning enclosures, arranging feeds for animals, handling, training and socialising of animals, assisting with routine veterinary work such as health checks, parasite control and vaccinations, aiding staff in assessing animals for rehoming, and attending to the general care of animals at the centre. During my time with the RSPCA I worked in the cattery, kennels and small animal section, experiencing a range of animals with different temperaments, behaviours and needs.

Worked on checkouts and shop floor. Originally hired as a Christmas temp to help with the increased workload at that time and was then employed for a more permanent position. Left the company in order to focus on university work and upcoming exams.

Was employed to care for the animals in the school's "Animal House"; a selection of hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, chinchillas, guinea pigs and giant snails (and at one point a rabbit who we rehomed for his welfare). I attended to the animals first at morning break, and then again at lunch where I also supervised the younger students in handling the animals. The job also included one in three weekends. Overall management of the Animal House also fell to myself and the two other prefects; including fundraising to cover the costs of keeping the animals, veterinary visits, purchase of supplies and new animals, and rehoming old, stressed or sick animals less suited to being handled by students daily.
