About Sammy Chow

My experiences are with Microsoft technologies since the early version of Visual Basic. I have developed applications using Visual Basic V6.0 with SQL Server, Oracle, and Sybase. The applications also interfaced with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel which provide storage and retrieval of Office documents using the Filenet as storage media. I was also involved with using the early verison of VB.NET (Visual Studio 2003) to develop an interface between the Visual Basic V6.0 applications with the Java web services. Recently I have been working in the project management area where I coordinated the development effort to implement a solution to replace the Access database with SQL Server for a vendor's applicationSpecialties: My specialities have always been with Microsoft Technologies including the Visual Studio development tools, Sybase and SQL Servers, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Access).

    As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the UWS application, I provided knowledge transfer and mentorship to outside contractors - TCS (Tata Consulting Service) for the transition of the Underwriter Workstation (UWS) application. Developed a good working relationship with the contractors and earned their respect. Continue to play a consulting role to TCS with suggestions, guidance, and recommendations on the UWS application.Integrated the Microsoft Office Suite tool (MS Office XP) with the UWS application for the creation, retrieval, and storage of various documents. These documents include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Notepad, and Outlook email messages. The automation of these documents with UWS allows the underwriters to create and view information about an insured within the applicationPrimary developer for the UWS application (Client Server). This application was developed using Microsoft Visual Basic to retrieve insurance data including the insured, policy, and agency. In addition to interface with the mainframe, UWS stores data in DB2, Sybase, and Filenet as the back end. Filenet is a document management system which is used to host any types of documents such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Visio, etc. The system also utilizes MS Access as the report tool for loss report. Due to the massive functionalities which exist in the UWS application, this system is still used today by many underwriters.This project allows me to develop a strong knowledge base in Underwriting and Risk Control. The project was well received and thus received the company's President Award.Besides the UWS application, I was also asked to assist with the other client server applications (Risk Control Workstation and Premium Audit) to provide risk control and premium audit information to the risk control representatives and auditors.
