Dive And Hyperbaric Engineer
Field Service Engineer
Assistant Engineer
In this role, I was working as a systems engineer. Much of my work revolved around requirements management and communicating with implementation groups. I became very well-versed in large-scale systems engineering as I was working on an AUD $16 Billion project. To achieve this I heavily used IBM Rational DOORS becoming very fluent in the operation of the program. One of the projects that I initiated and began the development and testing of, is by using artificial intelligence, specifically natural language processing to assist in rapidly increasing traceability and quality of links within the DOORS database.
Graduate Engineer
The first rotation involved working in signaling at the Engineering and Maintenance at Sydney Trains in the city east area. This rotation involved shadowing the signal engineers at the CBD network base, often working at locations, maintaining, fault finding and constructing signaling equipment. This was an extremely rewarding role. Some of my achievements included working on multiple interlocking modifications, attending and fault-finding failures, building and installing Kingfisher SCADA systems, creating a log deciphering program and working with contractors to fix and install maintenance tools. The second placement was at Intelligent Transport Systems. This role exposed me to a lot of project management work at all stages of the process across different major projects. I worked closely with the program managers and project engineers to constantly make sure we could deliver the project. I also worked developing test plans and procedures and then performing those to accurately give type approvals for devices used across the transport network. Much of this work involved field and laboratory testing while working very closely with the developers engineers.
Summer Researcher
This was a project-based role where I looked at using machine learning and computer vision systems in the context of wire arc 3D metal printing. This involved creating a perfect environment in the welding area for the vision system, involving lighting, software and filters. Obtaining a high-quality weld image allowed me to train a neural network that could accurately track the welding process. With this information, the settings of the welder could be altered to improve the weld in real-time. This was an enriching role where I could see tangible benefits and progress with the work that I was doing. I continued this project into my thesis.
Laboratory Assistant
I was responsible for assessing the quality of the product we produce and chemicals we use.Working shift work including day, night and afternoon shifts occasionally running the lab alone.Responsibilities also include informing site team leaders of problems and assisting in findingsolutions to those problems.
