The group is formed of representatives of train builders, train operators and connector manufacturers from France, Germany, Luxembourg and the UK. I chaired the meetings, lead the drafting of the standard and assisted the members in reaching consensus on the design of the connector. EN50546 was published in October 2020.The standard is likely to be revised in the near future to increase the scope. My primary role is to draft rail group standards, rail industry standards and guidance notes on electrical systems. This work involves analysing existing requirements, identifying relevant research outputs and consulting with industry stakeholders to identify the requirements needed in the new or revised standard. I then draft the requirements and associated rationale and guidance prior to consulting with industry and updating the standard based on their comments. I also undertake technical review of standards drafted by other members of the standards directorate. I act as the technical lead/ technical reviewer on RSSB sponsored research projects. In this role I help to develop the specification of the research, select the supplier, chair project meetings and provide technical review of the research. I also act as a GB member on International, European and UIC working groups and participate in GB mirror groups to these, see separate entries.I also act as the rolling stock/RSSB representative on industry advisory and strategy groups, see separate entries.I am a technical expert for UKAS (UK Acreditation Services) assisting the lead auditors in auditing railway approvals bodies. I was a member of the advisory board for the Shift2Rail projects CONECTA and Safe4Rail. This involved participating in two advisory board meetings where we reviewed the work done to date and provided advice on the future direction of the projects including answering specific questions posed by the team. I was able to provide advice based on experience of introducing new technologies to existing fleets and also provide a wider system context for the work.

As a secondment from the RSSB, I provided technical expertise for the Railway Industry audits for Approvals Bodies supporting UKAS (UK Accreditation Services) Audits. I participated in audits in three companies in the UK as well as companies in Norway, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The UKAS auditor led the audit but I was there to verify the technical content of the evidence presented.

This involves creating and updating the user guide for our aspects of the system, managing licences and performing a documentation configuration checking role. I also participate in monthly key user calls to provide input to improving the functionality of the system.

I managed the maintenance budget for the contract through the use of the internal BLESS tool which gathered life cycle cost details from each supplier.
