Bone Oncology Laboratory, A/Prof Claire EdwardsResearch focusing on the interactions between adipocytes, osteoblasts, pain-sensing nerves and multiple myeloma cells in bone, using in vivo rodent models of cancer, novel quantification methods for rodent pain and locomotion, quantitative and qualitative immunohistochemistry, X-ray micro-CT and 3-point bend bone structural analysis, purification and use of primary myeloma and bone cells from patient samples and experimental mice, in vitro assays of growth, growth factor release and interaction, qRT-PCR and SDS-PAGE western blot for quantification of key gene and protein expression; manager of ViiA7 qPCR Small Research Facility, supervisor for undergraduate students.- Lead researcher on NIH R01 and Orthopaedic Research UK funded projects, to explore how diet and obesity progress multiple myeloma and bone lesions- In vivo and ex vivo experimentation to elucidate interactions between bone stromal cells, bone structure and function, pain-sensing nerves and multiple myeloma- Co-ordinator of ViiA7 real-time PCR Small Research Facility, including performing calibrations and maintenance, training users and troubleshooting experimental or device problems- Supervisor for 4 Honours Biochemistry students and 4 Medical undergraduate placement students- Biobanking (collection, processing, storage and database entry) for patient cancer cells and fluids, working under UK Human Tissue Act- Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act UK Personal Licence Holder for transgenic rodent breeding and in vivo disease model experimentation (2012-2020)
