About Sam Panetta

This story starts way back in ‘03. It was time to get to work. Dropped out of school. Started my apprenticeship. It was tough work. With tough blokes. My Nonno put it elegantly:“You are going to go in a boy and come out a man” He was right. I was just 15. These guys were 50. It was time to grow up quickly. And despite the hard yakka. This was my first lucky break. My boss was a legendary property investor. Spent time with me. Taught me the business. And changed the trajectory for the rest of my life. Fast forward ten years. And my back was cooked. Went too hard, too young. Time for a new plan. My dream was always to work in finance. These bank CEOs on the tv were making millions. Surely I can buy Ferraris with that sort of money. So with a kick up the arse from my lovely wife. I got on the phones. If I call enough brokers, someone will give me a shot. Surely. Handful of rejections, and jagged an interview. Went in guns blazing. I’ll work for free. I’ll get your coffee. I’ll clean your office. I’ll do whatever it takes. Just give me a go. I got my chance. And BOOM, second lucky break. Enter my Yellow Brick Road era. (more deets in the Experience section below 👇🏼)After an amazing opportunity there. Time to step up with the big boys. And have a crack at building my own thing.Teamed up with my business partner. And have a red hot crack we did. BOOM, third lucky break. Entered my Aureus Financial era. (again more deets in the Experience section below 👇🏼)This was graduation. From good broker. To thinking like a business person. Operating like a business person. Being a business person. Starting. Scaling. Selling. And all the emotions that journey brings. The beginning. One part scary. One part exciting. The middle. One part messy. One part thrilling. The end. One part nostalgia. One part euphoria. Which brings us to today. Entering my BROKER COACH era. My fourth lucky break.     What an amazing journey. 2017. My wife was pregnant with our first. After multiple rounds of IVF. Getting ready to launch the Aureus Financial business. In the spare bedroom of my mother in laws home. My business partner was a planner. I was a broker. It was a match made in heaven. We had dreams building a one stop shop. Reality sets in. Business is hard.We were talented technically.We could write loans and plans.All day. Every day.But we were not trying to be brokers.We were not trying to be planners.We wanted to be business people.It was time to learn a whole new skill set.So we did.Courses. Events. Mentoring. Coaching. Reading. Watching. Listening.Devoured every resource we could get our hands on.Then, took massive action.Built methodologies to grow.Systems to support the growth.Teams to execute on the vision.Finally hit our stride.Time to expand.Launched into business coaching. Alright, three businesses running well.Time to grow faster.Bright idea. Acquisitions.One acquisition. Two. Three.Starting to take off.We need more help.Managers, yes. Leaders, yes.Bright idea.     This was my first big break. My baptism into the mortgage game. Story goes a bit like this. Begged for a shot. And got given a go. Work two weeks for free. Like promised. No phone call from the bosses afterwards. “Damn I must suck”Monday morning rolls around. Phone rings. Boss man. “Sam, get to the office”“And make sure you got your suit on” BOOM. Here we go! Worked diligently. Learned everything I could.Wanted to be the best support staff that ever existed.Started to figure out the commercial aspect of the business. Pipelines. Targets. Remuneration. Staff. When I found out about trailing commissions almost fell off my chair. Knew straight away that this was the game for me. Got promoted to broker.And done my first sales call ever. And I mean ever. I had never sold anything before in my entire life. The girl I talked to on the phone that day ended up being an amazing client. And stayed with me for the rest of my career. As did her mother. Three of her girlfriends. And their partners too. I was absolutely loving it. And the results were starting to show. Took out a couple of gongs. Young Gun of the Year. Top 30 under 30. New Broker of the Year. I was hooked. Passionate. Curious. And deeply interested. And also very lucky. Right place. Right time. Right people.If my boss never gave me a shot. Would not have worked. If my boss was not such a gun. Would not have worked. And if I was not there. Would not have met my future business partner. And started work on my next era. The Aureus era.
