Postdoctoral Fellow
- Assist in preparation and/or editing of operating grant applications, including data collection and analysis, text preparation and figure generation.- Prepare and edit manuscripts and figures for publication in peer-reviewed journals.- Design, implement and/or supervise experiments studying the electrical properties of proteins involved in heart rate regulation and sudden cardiac death.- Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory setting.
Phd
-My PhD research was focused on understanding the voltage dependent potassium (Kv) ion channel function and how dysfunction is related to disease.-Investigated the structural and molecular determinants of unusual gating properties of voltage-gated potassium channel- human ether-a-go-go-related gene (hERG), which plays a crucial role in cardiac excitability. -Characterized do novo novel KCNQ5 (neuronal channel) mutations that were discovered in children affected by intellectual disability with or without seizures.-Expressed hERG and KCNQ5 in Xenopus laevis oocytes and used electrophysiological techniques including two-electrode voltage clamp, voltage clamp fluorometry, and cut-open voltage clamp towards functional characterization of hERG and KCNQ5 channels.-Performed biochemical analysis such as western blot, protein expression and purification of hERG channels to demonstrate protein-protein interactions. -Investigated key determinants of drug binding in hERG channels.-Experience in using Clampfit 10.3 (Axon Instruments), SigmaPlot11 (Systat Software), or IGOR Pro (Wavemetrics) software to analyse the experimental data.
