About Samson Sherman

Hi, I'm Sam! I'm a lifelong educator and a skilled data analyst. As a middle school math/science teacher, I fell in love with exploring the world through numbers and seeking explanations that deepen our understanding.I joined the Data Analystics Immersion program at Chegg Skills (formerly Thinkful) to expand my skills and explore more ways to work with people and data. During the program, I developed a deep understanding of Excel, SQL, Tableau, and Python and applied my skills to projects I was really interested in (see below). However, my greatest strength goes beyond these tools and into the heart of the Data Analysis process. As industry leaders grapple with the growing culture of data in their field, the art of identifying metrics that fully capture the state of things we care about remains a mystery to many. I learned how to develop nuanced approaches to collecting data in one of the most controversial industries in the world: education. I have the experience and skills to bring stakeholders together to converge on visions and values, create unique KPIs to measure those values, and carry out research to effectively illustrate progress toward their vision.I'm passionate about industries (like education, environment, public health, social justice) where the efforts are beneficial to society, but the systems are ripe for improvement. As a data analyst in these industries, I can communicate, inspire, and motivate individuals and companies to grow in ways that positively affect our human experience.On the side, I like to write about my experience in education, specifically the exciting and difficult changes happening in Math. My blog (thenewmath.org) is a conversation between parents, teachers, and curriculum developers to discuss what we all want for our students in today's world and how we can change our mindsets and systems to achieve that.
