Electromechanical design engineer for Shimbuwa Khola Hydroelectric Project (75 MW), Nepal.As part of SMEC’s design team I’m responsible for reviewing and updating of feasibility study, preparation of new design and tender document for Shimbuwa Khola Hydroelectric Project: -.As SMEC’s member my duties were the followings: -• Reviewing and updating of previous studies.• Making decisions on the hydro plant final capacity and number units.• Designing final plant layout and sizing auxiliaries.• Studying the different options of power evacuation possibilities and making final decisions.• Preparation of final detail technical report and tender documents.• During the implementation stage of the project as part of SMEC I will be reviewing manufacturers design documents and supervision of works.

Electromechanical design engineer for Julius Nyerere Hydro Power Construction (9 x 235 MW) Project, Tanzania.As part of the design team I’m responsible for designing the powerhouse plant layout and guarantee its compliance with the employer requirements (TENESCO) works on the project includes: -.As SMEC’s member my duties were the followings:• Designing plant layout.• Preparation of scopes and specification and evaluation of offers.• Preparing purchase orders (PO) for the purchase of the different type of goods and services by the contractor.• Helping the contractor to making an informed decision on different type of technical issues.• Reviewing of designs of many of the sub-contractors.• Coordinate the testing and commissioning process.

Construction Management and Owners Engineer for the construction of new hydro plant with 2X2.5 MW generating units.As SMEC’s member my duties were the followings:• Reviewing and optimizing fusibility studies and preparing tender specification and scope.• Establish procedures to review, monitor and coordinate the EPC Contractors’ design proposals and method statements to ensure that the Works are in conformity with the EPC Contracts;• Monitor the issue of drawings, plans, descriptions, specifications and other documents and information against any programs issued to which they relate;• Review all drawings, plans, descriptions, specifications, method statements and other documents and information relating to the Project to assess on behalf of the Client and advise the Client (and inform the Independent Engineer of such advice) as to compliance with the EPC Contracts and the operability, reliability and maintainability of the Project and issue the necessary comments to the EPC Contractors;• Ensure Contractors’ compliance with their quality assurance programs as defined in the EPC Contracts;• Identify to the extent possible defects in the design and construction of the Project both prior to and during and after the engineering, procurement, design, construction, testing, commissioning, preparation for start-up and take-over of the Project and issue instructions for making good such defects to the EPC Contractors pursuant to the EPC Contracts; • Advise and assist and manage on behalf of the Client any disputes arising under any of the Project Agreements or with any third parties in respect of the Project; • Coordinate the interface point from the transmission line and the power station switchyard at the site; • Coordinate the testing and commissioning process.

Devoted to the review of the soundness of engineering studies and designs including:• Design criteria, calculations and models• Technical specifications.• Due diligence adherence to international quality standards• Identifying areas for improvements in design and implementation methods to make the structures safe, robust and durable for the design life of the hydropower plant.• Oversee relevant site inspections.• Attend Factory Acceptance Tests for Power Transformers, Protection Relays, SCADA, Turbine Governor and Excitation System.

The project “EASTERN ELECTRICITY HIGHWAY-ETHIOPIA-KENYA POWER SYSTEMS INTERCONNECTION PROJECT (EKPSIP)” consists with the construction of approximately 1000 km HVDC (±500 kV) TL and one Converter Station (CS) in Ethiopia and Kenya, each. The system is designed for 2000 MW in bipolar mode.My main duty consists on carrying out, on daily basis, the electrical and mechanical equipment installation supervision of the Ethiopian side of Converting Station (CS). The main activities of the Supervision Engineer aresummarized a s follows. Electrical works suprvisorMy assignment cover the following main duties:-• Reviews technical documents relating to the electrical design and system settings and assess the adequacy of the design for the intended use. The project consisted with 5X50 MW electric generators.• Inspects quality of installations for all electrical components. • Coordinates and supervision of the construction of 90 km 220 kV and 20 km 132 kV TLs and a new 132/33 kV SS related with the project. The project involves also upgrading of existing SSs. • Witnesses testing and commissioning of equipment and systems• Administer work to maintain required QA/QC and overall schedule

During this period I was in charge of managing, designing, supervising and coordinating the construction of MV (15 & 33 KV) and LV distribution lines, to electrify eleven (11) and Nineteen (19) towns in west Gojam and Central Tigray of Ethiopia, respectively. I’m also one of the share holders of the above mentioned companies.Additionally during this period I have worked in the electrical design, preparation of specification and tender document, etc of all electrical works for one of the biggest east African corrugated carton factory.During this period as part time work, I was working in the review of design and preparation of specification for a medium scale dual irrigation/hydro-power plant in Ethiopia.

During this period as part of the consultant LI site team for the OFE – 14/15 project, I was in charge of approval of site modified designs, supervision of installation and witnessing of all tests and commissioning activities.the followings were mayor components of the project:-• Four intake gates,• Two generators (2 X 41 MW) – both stator and rotor were site assembled,• MV switchgear, protection, instrumentation and control system, HP oil system, CW system, fire protection and fighting system, DC system, DCS system, compressed air system, Drainage and dewatering system, 132 kV switchyard etc,• Commissioning of two units completely and performing guaranty test on one unit.

During this period I was assigned to lead the construction of two substations, one located in Addis Ababa and the other in Mota town at about 320 km from Addis Ababa.

During this period I was assigned to lead the construction of one new substation (2x16 MVA, 230/66/15 kV) at Gonedr and a 200 km 230 kV transmission line from Bahir Dar to Gonder.

During this period seconded to the COB-HH-RKD JV, the consulting engineer for the project. Responsible for supervision of installation and commissioning of all electrical equipment associated with the project and reporting to the RKD Resident Engineer (Electrical).Participated in erection, testing and commissioning of :-• Five radial gates for the control of river flow, Four canal gates and two intake gates,• Two generators (2 X 36.5 MW) – both stator and rotor were site assembled,• Installation and commissioning of Digital excitation system, included SCADA, telephone, DC system, compressed air system, HP oil system, CW system, drainage and dewatering system, etc• Installation of fire protection and fighting system, DC system, DCS system, compressed air system, Drainage and dewatering system, 132 kV switchyard, Digital electronics governor, etc.• Installation and commissioning of generator transformer and the associated 132 kV substation.

Responsible to the project manager.Member of the team of EEPCO electrical and mechanical engineers working with the consulting engineer (COB-HH-RKD JV) on the design and tender assessment for Tis Abay II HPS to the Bahir Dar substation and radial gates to be installed at Lake Tana to provide greater control of the Abay River (Blue Nile).Duties included checking the various tender documents to insure they complied with the specified requirements and after contract were awarded checking the detailed design.

During this period duties included:• Design and supervision of electrical installation in various EEPCO branch offices,• Preparation of specifications and tender documents for Diesel generators, substation, transformers, etc.• Evaluation of tender documents,• Temporary assignment to Tis Abay I HEP (2X3.9 and 1X3.7 MW) and Koka HEP (3X14.4MW) for rehabilitation. Duties included:o Detail survey to establish refurbishment work needed to restore generators capacity to their original design output,o Prepare tender documents, evaluate proposals and award contracts for rehabilitation.

Duties included design and supervision of erection of the site distribution system, installing and setting of laboratory equipments, installing and testing of sand screening, aggregate and concrete production plants, etc.
