Open Source Community Africa is a community aimed at creating and supporting the open source movement within Africa. As a community, we intend to help integrate the open source contribution to African developers while strongly advocating the movement of free and open source software to change the perception of Africans from just a billion users to the Next Billion Creators. To continue and ensure success, we have community events across African cities with localized content that fits local trends, enabling us to grow in 60+ cities. To support the overall program, we kickstarted our version of the Open Source Summit, which we called the Open Source Festival, started in Early 2020 as a flagship event that would attract student delegates, developers, designers, and corporate organizations on a large scale with series of talks, workshops, and awareness of open-sourced developer tools as they showcase around the latest happenings in technology and the growth of open source in Africa.

The Open Source Collective is a non-profit umbrella organization providing financial and legal infrastructure for thousands of open source projects. It’s an API between distributed collaboration and accounting and invoices.Our mission is to promote a sustainable and healthy open source ecosystem and work for the common interests of those who create and use open source software.

The community relations team supports our mission by implementing community outreach programs, organizing events, and supporting our community’s contributions to Sourcegraph. The team’s ultimate goal is to contribute to understanding and smooth collaboration within our community and increase technical literacy.

Sugar Labs is a software-development and learning community.Sugar Labs is a community-run software project whose mission is to produce, distribute, and support the use of the Sugar learning platform. Sugar Labs supports the community of educators and software developers who want to extend the platform and who have been creating Sugar Activities. A community project, Sugar is available under the open-source GNU General Public License (GPL) and free to anyone who wants to use or extend it.

The mission of the oversight board is to ensure that the Sugar Labs community has clarity of purpose and the means to collaborate in achieving its goals.

The ITU, UN Women, and AUC are partnering in a bold new initiative to train Girls from the African Continent how to Code. The African Girls Can Code Initiative is a four-year project that will bring together Girls from all over the African continent across different languages to spark their interest in ICT as a career path and to empower them as young promising innovative women on the Continent. The Initiative also plans to execute activities to mainstream ICTs and Gender into the national school curricula of African countries and to establish and maintain an online platform where girls participating in the camps and others can interact with Inspirational Women and other Mentors, and have access to learning materials and comprehensive information on existing ICT and Tech clubs, companies and institutions that they can liaise with going forward.The first camp with 120 Girls participating will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in August of 2018.​

One Laptop per Child (OLPC) is a project supported by the Miami-based One Laptop per Child Association (OLPCA) and the Cambridge-based OLPC Foundation (OLPCF), two U.S. non-profit organizations set up to oversee the creation of affordable educational devices for use in the developing world. The project was originally funded by member organizations such as AMD, Chi Mei, eBay, Google, Marvell Technology Group, News Corporation, Nortel, Red Hat, and Quanta.I am a volunteer

Google Summer of Code is an international annual program in which Google awards stipends, which depends on place of university of the student, to all students who successfully complete a requested free and open-source software coding project during the summer. The program is open to university students aged 18 or over. So my job as a mentor is to make sure my assigned Student complete his or her task. Working for Google under Sugar Labs is a fun thing and it gives me more exposure to mentorship.

Schlumberger has adopted education as a key theme of its community outreach, which is composed of several initiatives: SEED, the Schlumberger Foundation, and Local Initiatives undertaken by its GeoMarkets as well as employees on their own time.The mission of SEED is to inspire, influence and enable educators in underserved communities where Schlumberger people live and work to engage youth in science and technology. SEED aims to build learning communities and knowledge-sharing environments in which students, educators and volunteers collaborate on projects in their local languages.
