I work at The Ready, a self-managing organization design consultancy focused on changing how the world works.Every leader knows that change is needed. To eliminate or avoid bureaucracy, we must discover and scale new ways of working that prioritize autonomy, agility, and impact. There’s just one problem: change management doesn’t work. StrategistUndercurrent Jul 2015 - Aug 2015Global, UsI was drawn to Undercurrent while studying for my PhD in positive organizational psychology. I never intended to work for anyone but myself but reading about the work they were doing was transformative. For the first time I saw a company talking about the future of work the way I talked about the future of work. They weren't soulless consultants building endless decks but creative humanists who wanted to create better organizations for people -- and for the world. I made it my goal to get hired by this company and after 9 months of phone calls, subtle (or not so subtle) Twitter stalking, and intense personal growth I convinced them to hire me. I moved to New York to start work and unfortunately three weeks later the company dissolved (which is a long story in itself). My short time at Undercurrent was the jumping off point for a.) a career I absolutely love and b.) a surprising number of friendships with some of the smartest and kindest people I know. -
Research Lead & Leadership CoachLead Labs Sep 2013 - 2015Claremont, Ca, UsLeAD Labs was a student run hybrid research lab and consulting company led by Dr. Becky Reichard. My role was to help lead the Research arm of this organization (hence the "Research Lead") title as well as engage with the consulting side of the house as a Leadership Coach. We had several contracts, notably with the Getty Leadership Institute, to provide leadership coaching to museum executives around the country. -
Teaching Assistant, Foundations Of Positive Psychology And Positive Organizational PsychologyClaremont Graduate University Aug 2012 - 2015Claremont, Ca, UsI served as one of a couple Teaching Assistants for Drs. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and Jeanne Nakamura during my time as a PhD student living and working on campus in Claremont, CA. I did the usual Teaching Assistant things; working with students, grading papers, helping administer the class, and generally acting as the liaison between the students and the professors. Most notably, this allowed me to spend more time with one of my academic heroes, Dr. Csikszentmihalyi, which was worth so much more than the stipend I was paid to perform this role. Truly a memorable experience to get to know him better. -
FounderThe Workologist Coaching & Consulting 2011 - 2015During my time as a full-time graduate student I maintained my own website and small consulting practice. On the writing side of things, I regularly published articles about personal development, organizational psychology, and positive psychology. This website helped me find consulting and coaching projects, including the opportunity to work on a several month project with the David Allen Company. This project eventually culminated in much of the material that found its way into chapter 14 of the revised edition of Getting Things Done by David Allen (and thus my inclusion in the Acknowledgements section).

TeacherAvondale High School Sep 2009 - Apr 2011I substitute taught for the better part of two years at Avondale High School. What started as periodic short-term substitute positions eventually turned into an emergency long-term substitute position where I was asked to fully take over for an ailing teacher, on no notice, for more than three months. I don't care what else I end up doing in my career -- this will hands down be the most stressful work situation I will ever experience. I'm sure of it. I survived. The kids seemed to learn some stuff. But I learned that I did not want to make high school teaching my career. Hence, the jump to graduate school and everything else you see above.
