As Digital Sales Manager at Peter Lang, my role is to help grow the company and drive our transition towards open access. My territory covers all of Europe, with a focus on the UK and DACH region.

In this role I have the privilege of working for Proquest as a Books Sales Specialist. This is such a unique and interesting position, one part of it is a traditional publishing sales role where you have your products to sell (and Proquest has some world class products, such as Academic Complete and O'Reilly for Higher Education) but its also a role where you work with customers to understand in detail their workflow, strategy, goals and plans in order to make the process by which they buy content which is essential to the library as smooth as possible. A lot of this role is about building and developing models and processes as it is selling specific products, and I love how consultative this is and how much scope you have to be genuinely innovative and create a new way of doing things. The team is first rate, and Proquest is full of intelligent, driven, kind and funny people.

I had the privilege of representing Cambridge University Press across Germany. This was a really exciting position, being able to promote the vast array of high quality content that Cambridge University Press publishes across a beautiful country. I felt so lucky to be out there visiting cities I love like Berlin, Cologne or Hamburg. I've had the opportunity to visit beautiful libraries such as the Herzog August Bibliothek, and German landmarks such as Cologne Cathedral, the Brandenburg Gate or the Herrenhausen gardens. Also, I ate more Kebabs in Germany that year than I care to mention.

In this role I worked for Gale Cengage, selling their Primary Source Archives to University Libraries across Southern England and Ireland. I was lucky enough to sell incredible archives like The Times Digital Archive, The Telegraph Archive, State Papers Online and database products such as Gale Reference Complete. I had so many wonderful experiences in this role, getting to see beautiful libraries in Dublin and London, and working with some of the world's leading research libraries to strengthen their collections. As a history nerd it was really so wonderful to work with such interesting primary sources and also to speak with leading academics about their research and the way they used primary materials.

I loved this role. I met some many wonderful people who I'm still friends with today. After working as a recruitment consultant in the field for a number of years, I had the opportunity to experience publishing sales first hand, and quickly fell in love with it. I got to sell fascinating products, see the country including Edinburgh and Loch Ness (but sadly, didn't see Nessie, six year old me would have been devastated). I got to work on new models in a close knit team, gaining sales across my territory. Even though it was a maternity cover, I really value the time I had in this role.
