At Mark Twain Elementary, I teach to a vast array of students and differentiate my instruction to meet the needs of all students. One way I do this is within our school schedule. We rotate our students so they are in groups with other students at their own academic level. This promotes smaller learning environments and peer interaction as well. Another way I do this is through the use of technology. An example would be utilizing the differentiated curriculum resources provided in teaching manuals and connected online materials. With our ever-changing standards and curriculum, I have had the opportunity to use a variety of teacher/student texts with corresponding technology. I am able to master these programs quickly and teach them to other members of our staff. In 2015, I attended the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) to learn more about using Twitter as a tool for professional growth, as well as showcasing my classroom to the community. I was excited to bring back this knowledge to the staff at Mark Twain. As a result, they created their own accounts and are avid users of the application. I attended ISTE as an attendee again in 2016. In 2017, I will be a presenter, attendee, and champion volunteer. This year at the conference, I plan to seek information to guide a STEAM fair (science fair) for upper-elementary students. Projects for this STEAM-based project will be rubric based in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, or math and will showcase a variety of talents within our elementary school.
