Dedicated registered nurse with military experience seeking a position in the instructor or case management field, where I can leverage my proven skills in nursing. Career is supported with a Bachelor in Science in Nursing (BSN) and currently certified in the state of Virginia.I dedicated 2 years to the medical/surgical field where I had the opportunity to serve a wide range of patients. I definitely recommend devoting some time to med/surg if you are going into the nursing field. I worked hand in hand with hospitalists, family practice MD's, nurses and other ancillary staff to provide the best possible outcome for our patients. I also gave 6 months in psych/behavioral health. This was a new and great experience that afforded me the opportunity to work with the military PTSD program that offered in-patient and out-patient services. I was able to assist patients with mild symptoms all the way up to patients in the intensive treatment unit (ITU). I learned a great deal and added more tools to my tool box.After having combat, medical, surgical and psychological experience, I went to labor and delivery for 6 months. That was the only field I felt I had very little knowledge in at that point in time. Myself and another male RN (Luis) were the first male RN's in the Richmond area to join the L&D team by joining at the same time. Personally having 3 children of my own, I had never witnessed a c-section nor did I have an understanding of bleeding control methods for birth inside the hospital. This opened a whole new world to me and allowed me to have a better understanding of the birthing process. Not long after joining the L&D team, I was reactivated for full time service in the military, where I served 6 years as a medic (EMT) for the US Army National Guard. Over my 22 year military career I have taken 3 business trips overseas providing primary, secondary and in some cases tertiary care for service members and civilians alike. As an instructor for the military, I have trained, managed, and mentored countless service members in health care. For my efforts I have received several awards to include a bronze star, combat medical badge, several Army Commendation and Army Achievement Medals.Now I am looking to serve in a civilian capacity as an instructor or case manager. I feel with the experience and years of service to this country I can add value to the company that includes me on their team.
