Undergraduate/Masters degree was at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, with internships in Professor Dylan Edward's lab studying matrix metalloproteases in breast cancer using cell biology techniques and an internship in Dr Stephen Robinson's lab studying angiogenesis using cell biology and ex/in vivo assays. PhD in Biology was in the Biomedical Research Centre in Norwich with Dr Stephen Robinson. Our work, now published, was focused on using proteomics to take a fresh, non biased look at the role of integrin beta3 in angiogenesis. This approach was validated in vitro and in vivo and highlighted the previously unknown roles of integrin beta3 in regulating the microtubule cytoskeleton. This PhD also included a very productive 3 month internship at Intelligent Fingerprinting Limited in Cambridge which resulted in a novel patent and publication for the company.Currently my work at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research in Glasgow is using cutting edge mass spectrometry to study how post-translational modifications across the entire proteome affect the progression/prognosis and treatment of ovarian cancer.
