Construction supervision and monitoring of bulk earthworks and subdivision stages in complex geology including the construction of a shear key, retaining walls, reinforced earth slopes, in-ground pile walls, temporary excavations and earth fills.· Planning and completing targeted investigations and ongoing development of the ground model to inform and adapt design solutions.· Liaison with clients, civil engineers and contractors to manage geotechnical risk and provide guidance with design solutions.· Management of groundwater, slope stability and settlement monitoring regime including data analysis and reporting.· Delivery of factual and interpretive reporting including earthworks and subdivisional completion, design variation and compliance reporting.

Geotechnical Engineer, West Angelas mine site, Western AustraliaRio Tinto Iron Ore Pilbara includes a world-class, integrated network of 15 iron ore mines, three port facilities, a 1,600 kilometre rail network and related infrastructure.Geotechnical Engineers at the West Angelas mine are responsible for coordinating geotechnical support to mining activities and to the mine plan through pro-active management and reporting of geotechnical risks.My role for Rio Tinto:As part of my new graduate program, I had the opportunity to work for a year with a team of engineers designing drilling programs for expansion of mines in the Pilbara region.Fieldwork: Inspecting pit slopes and waste dumps/maintaining record of findings, mapping, radar checks, drill and blast signoff, installing operating and maintaining geotechnical monitoring equipment, groundwater monitoring, organizing and running fortnightly geotechnical training programs for new staff.Office environment: Data analysis and validation for slope stability. This involves working with the following geotechnical software: Vulcan, MapInfo, Rocscience suite, DIPS, UNWEDGE, Map3D, Softrock slope monitoring, Microsoft office.As part of my work I was responsible for and accomplished the following tasks:- Geotechnical data collection, sampling and validation (QA) from diamond core in order to derive rock mass parameters- Geotechnical database management- Downhole televiewer and survey interpretation- Factual report drafting- Organisation of a drilling campaign at PFS stage- Slope stability analysis using Rocscience software- Slope monitoring planning, implementation and reporting- Reconciliation mapping and reporting- Issuing geotechnical hazard alerts for identified hazards- Use of two slope stability monitoring radars (Reutech andGroundprobe)- Contributing to a safe working environment by cleaning anddesigning a new core yard.
