I assist developmentally challenged individuals at both summer camps and afterschool programs.

Once a week, I co-lead a cooking class (mostly for first & second grade students) involving blenders and a toaster oven. Recipes include Baked Apples With Whipped Cream, Fruit Kabobs With Sun Butter Dip, and Avocado Brownies With Kale Pesto.

I managed the plant's recycling & compost and recording/reporting all pertinent data.

I serve multiple roles - food prep, receiving, dishwasher, waste management. It's great to play an integral role within an upbeat team dynamic. Austin Java's service and managerial structure are fast, efficient, and serve a vital role in the community by providing attractive hangout and entertainment spaces.

I've been a resident of Sasona since 2009. During the latter half of this period, I've been elected to serve its managerial needs and keep its food service within health code standards. Attending meetings regularly, adopting transparent labor management practices, overseeing a recent floor renovation, maintaining a valid food handler's certificate, as well as creating a laminated 25-page manual for code compliance have all contributed to a clean and hospitable kitchen.

During the year I received my certification (2004-2005), I taught social studies and science to at-risk middle school students in Englewood. My objective was relatively simple - to provide structure in the classroom for students who had none at home. The eighth graders in particular took well to the 'Do Now, Do Next, Do At Home"​ routine I'd lay out for them on the board every day (involving exercises covering topics ranging from World Religions to Forms of Matter). My administrator also informed me that I was the most "consistent"​ teacher she had on staff that year.During the previous year (2003-2004), I raised standardized fourth-grade mathematics scores 35 percent by implementing an advanced system of manipulative tasks for fourth-graders in Newark. Roughly 40% of the population (myself included) is kinesthetic - that is they learn by doing moreso than by seeing or hearing. My efforts met the needs of the kinesthetic students. Similarly, I improved a third-grade student's confidence by teaching him to roll a Rubik's snake into a ball during a mentorship I fulfilled earlier that year.Prior to my New Jersey-based assignments, I served as a substitute teacher in several Northwestern Connecticut schools over an eighteen month period. I was also a head coordinator of an after-school program in the town of Harwinton for roughly two thirds of this period and later a homework teacher at New York City's PS9.

Much of its content was inspired by the works of author and fellow educator Joseph Bharat Cornell who emphasizes that it's not as important to think as it is to feel. His materials outline numerous activities (ie "Meet a Tree") in which students give a blindfolded description of a specific tree. Factors such as the textures and shapes of its bark, the width of its trunk, and the presence (or absence) of leaves, knobs, and fungi are considered.Obstacle course initiatives included trust falls, climbing walls, and walking on suspended cables. In all three examples, students were taught to trust one another as spotters prior to executing the activities themselves. A similar dynamic applied to their construction geodesic domes which involved specific knot-tying and log assembly skills (as well as geometric information concerning the superior strength of a triangle as compared to other recognizable shapes.
