Staffside is a collective of trade unions that come together as one such as RCN, Unite, BMA and CSP to name a few. Within my role as chair my duties include;-Acting as a lead for staffside and focal point with effective and wide communication and presentation of agreed staffside policies and aims.-Chairing AGMs and ordinary meetings, setting the order of the business for the agenda; ensuring that accurate, timely and clear information is circulated; keeping track of the contribution of individuals and respectful conduct, ensuring all are involved in discussions and decision-making-Ensuring effective structures are in place with the secretary for the efficient operation of the branch, this includes being the line manager for the trade union administrator-Serve as the main point of contact for Trust management and working closely with the Executive team within Kings College hospital

I spent my last rotation at critical care permanently. I look after the most vulnerable and sick patients within Kings and assess, plan and evaluate individualised programmes of care for patients in partnership with the patient, their carer’s and the multi- disciplinary team to ensure the best outcome for our patients. My skills included;- To ensure care is delivered in accordance with latest evidence based practice guidelines- To assist in the teaching and practice development of junior colleagues and students-To demonstrate the use of information and research findings to support and promote evidence based practice within the clinical area-To observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and well–being ofself, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post

For my first rotation I spent 6 months working within the Accident and Emergency department, this included resuscitation, majors, AMA and urgent same day care. I also completed my ILS course and the National Major Trauma Nursing competencies. During this time my duties were;- Managing deteriorating patients such as cardiac arrests, intubations, major traumas via London ambulance or London air ambulance- Supporting patients with mental health needs- Utilising assessment skills- Working alongside the full MDT team- Liaising with families offering support when needed

As a neuroscience nurse I looked after Neurosurgery-acute neurosurgical ward specialising in pre & post-operative care of patients receiving brain & spinal surgery. This also included looking after patients being stepped down from ITU and being transferred from A&E. The skills I achieved during this time where;-Looking after tracheostomy patients in HDU, transferring them for scans, surgery and back to their local hospital- Escalating deteriorating patients to our critical care outreach team as well as the neurosurgical doctors- Working as Nurse in charge during the shift ensure safe movements of beds, discharging and admittance as well as safe staffing.
