The Marysville Research Station is apart of the global headquarters for Scotts Miracle-Gro Company. As a Research Station Facility Specialist, I am tasked with creating quality indoor and outdoor growing environments for research personnel. In our greenhouse space, I am involved in environmental control programming, maintaining light systems and determine unique solutions for researchers to conduct trials on various crops. Our outdoor growing spaces require consistent maintenance of fields, garden rows and shade structures to provide a number of different spaces to conduct research based on needs.Our greenhouse and indoor hemp facility use Argus Control Systems to maintain all abiotic environmental factors. In these spaces we use a variety of lighting systems such as high pressure sodium fixtures and various LED fixtures (Gavita CT1930, Gavita 1700, and Gavita WEGA R90G5B5/R90G5B5 FR+). These fixtures allow a multitude of environmental conditions to be created for quality research. Our outdoor growing spaces include 30+ acres of growing fields, 100+ garden rows and multiple shade structures. These areas allow researchers to conduct tests of different grasses, hemp plants, and botanicals. Working in the outdoor grounds have given me the opportunity to work with heavy machinery such as tractors, tool cats and forklifts.

As a Research Assistant for Corteva Agriscience, I work in our 5-acre Greenhouse Facility for our Plant Quality Team. Our team helps care for many crop species such as corn, soy, sorghum, wheat, canola, arabadopsis, and more. Within my team, I am involved in our fertilizer program, integrated pest management program , and care of our youngest greenhouse plants. I am the lead caregiver for our young plants wing which cycles through 90% of all greenhouse plantings. As lead, I am responsible for the watering and overall plant health of the wing. This includes specialized watering techniques, insect/disease prevention, and management of clients plant study material. Outside of plant health, I am responsible for maintaining a clean environment and management of abiotic factors such as humidity, VPD, light targets, and temperature using Argus Control Systems.My responsibilities in our fertilizer program include mixing of fertilizer, and calibration of our facilities robust injector system. We employ a variety of injector sizes in order to fit the needs for small and large scale growing. Calibration of the injectors ranges in solution sizes of 5 to 100 gallons. Our facility maintains a strict range for proper fertilization of all plants. Within the Integrated Pest Management Group, I am involved in a two prong approach using pesticides/insecticides and beneficial insects. I frequently mix pesticide formulas and apply them within the facility. We use a variety of safety measures during every application to ensure the safety of all employees. Our beneficial insect program requires frequent scouting and deployment of beneficial insects. Through the use of beneficial insects, we maintain a low pest pressure environment. This allows our company to have a environmentally friendly way of controlling a variety of greenhouse pests. Outside of my main responsibilities, I am involved in soil testing, crop pollination, and maintenance of automated watering systems.

As a contractor for the Plant Quality Team, I am responsible for testing and maintaining the proper soil and water standards for all plants in our 5-acre greenhouse facility. I am also involved in identifying pests/disease on various crop species, and creating pesticide/beneficial insect mixes to solve any plant related issues. Outside of the Plant Quality Team, I assist in many other greenhouse activities. I care for greenhouse plants in weeks 1-4 growth stage(90% of all of greenhouse plants start here), and pollination of various corn and sorghum genetic lines.

Field technician working in collection and transportation of OSHA regulated hazardous waste. Responsible for implementation of emergency response solutions to hazardous materials spills such as oil, gas, acid and caustic materials, etc. Frequent work in permit required confined spaces under varying environmental conditons with use of Air Purifying Respirators (APR) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Work sites are located in a variety of different areas such as industrial facilities, natural environments, and commercial properties. Serious emphasis on implementing solutions that focus on safety and customer satisfaction. Certified in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and Confined Space Entry/Rescue.

Springfield, Ohio

Summer long internship that included work around the Springfield area with the National Trails Parks and Recreation District/Springfield Conservancy District. Day to day operations generally consisted of maintaining multiple parks around the city, and a 40-acre prairie system. Operations consisted of prairie and park management through land and water pesticide spreading, botanical work in greenhouses, sustainability projects, and general parks management.
