As a first generation college graduate, I have personally seen the transformative power of education. Although my journey here, to this application, was anything but linear. I grew up in rural Vermont, where I worked at our small family diner after school each day, balancing homework with soda refills and dishes - a responsibility that I stayed true to throughout my four years of undergraduate at the University of Vermont studying Mathematics. Staying close to home, my friend and I had access to 5 acres of land that we began farming, growing more than 150 different kinds of vegetables and raising animals. However, in 2013, I had to make the difficult decision to move somewhere new to pursue more financially viable career opportunities and through luck of the draw, I ended up in the San Francisco Bay Area where my career in education formally began.In 2013, I began working at Seneca Family of Agencies - James Baldwin Academy Non-Public School. Starting off as a classroom counselor, working with some of the most challenging students from all over the Bay Area, I was quickly promoted to a Teacher role in 2014. During that time, I became the leader of our mathematics curriculum development within the agency where I focused on developing culturally responsive approaches in concert with high leverage strategies to support unique learners. I also coached other instructors in implementing this curriculum as well as supporting them with technology needs. During this time, I also completed the California Clear Credential program in 2019 for Mild/Moderate Special Education with an ASD endorsement. My main role was as the teacher on record for a high school classroom with between 13-18 students, all while managing their IEP caseloads and the responsibility of teaching all of the core courses as well as electives including Astronomy, French, and Music Theory to different age groups across the school ranging from first grade up to 12th.In February of 2022, I was faced with a set of circumstances that brought me back across the country to New York. When I arrived, I began subbing in New York City public schools, completed my Masters in Special Education at Loyola Marymount University and have currently applied for a Professional Credentials in both Math and Special Education with the goal of continuing to provide excellent instruction here on the east coast this fall.
