As a Portfolio Associate I worked within the Incubator's Venture Partner team in a fast paced, varied role, with activities ranging from: managing day to day functions of the MEST Portfolio (communications, funding, reporting, etc.); helping the companies in the portfolio grow and scale by providing them with connections and advice in my areas of expertise; managing relationships with ecosystem partners to provide access to discounted services, webinars, and mentorship; designing market and… Show more As a Portfolio Associate I worked within the Incubator's Venture Partner team in a fast paced, varied role, with activities ranging from: managing day to day functions of the MEST Portfolio (communications, funding, reporting, etc.); helping the companies in the portfolio grow and scale by providing them with connections and advice in my areas of expertise; managing relationships with ecosystem partners to provide access to discounted services, webinars, and mentorship; designing market and product validation course programming for new entrepreneurs, creating an incubator focused community and communications strategy during COVID-19; providing, and helping company founders create, branding and marketing content in collaboration with the Marketing team; and other tasks in the service of helping provoke both personal and professional growth in the people and financial growth in the start-ups within the MEST community. This role involved both in-person and remote working arrangements. I was proud to run MEST's first-ever mental health focused event in collaboration with ecosystem partners and the Mental Health Society of Ghana, putting a spotlight on the all-too-prevalent issue in a society where it remains highly stigmatized and generating important conversation in an industry where it is all-too often ignored. MEST offers Africa-wide technology entrepreneur training, internal seed funding, and a network of hubs providing incubation for technology startups in Africa. Founded in Ghana in 2008, MEST provides critical skills training, funding, and support in software development, business, and communications to Africa’s tech entrepreneurs. Hubs are located in Accra, Ghana; Lagos, Nigeria; Cape Town, South Africa; and Nairobi, Kenya.
