Senior Developer
Senior Software Developer
Working as a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer presented me with many new challenges, skills to learn and ways to improve. During this role I was responsible for designing a new core system to facilitate key areas of the business. In order to achieve this I worked on a React JS front end supported by Nest JS GraphQL Apis and a postgres database. This required me to design the database architecture and the API structures to support the new tool, then integrate the backend with a functional React Interface. All the while ensuring the code was understandable, maintainable and following good practices. My time in this role also involved mentoring and working closely with junior developers helping them along their journeys. Not solving the blockers for them but helping them to understand why and how to overcome them in the future. My time working on this new system allowed me to do what I enjoy the most in understanding business problems and translating that to a solution design and finally a working system. It involved working on new tools and technologies in order to build something new from the ground up.Tools and Languages: React JS, NestJS, Typescript, GraphQL, Jest, Postgres, Reddis and Docker
Backend Software Developer
Working as a backend .Net Developer allowed me to continue to hone and develop my strengths. I enjoy complex systems and working to improve the efficiency, maintainability and extensibility of them. In this role I worked on WCF services, restful api’s and database (mySql) updates to maintain, improve and introduce new functionality to an existing solution.
Senior Software Developer
Working as a Senior Developer enabled me to expand on the responsibilities and opportunities I had developed while working as a .Net Developer. On top of building new features and maintaining existing functionality in a SmartCLient application, WCF services, API services and SQL databases I was responsible for the technical design, implementation and maintenance of core components within the larger system. I solved problems and devised business and system solutions, conducted code reviews and mentored junior developers. I needed to decide the work breakdown and responsibilities for the team’s developers. Ensure that we reduced technical debt and improved the proficiency of the system as well as help shape the future direction of it. I engaged with other technical resources to understand system limitations, design overarching solutions and encourage good design and best practices that went beyond my code and the components I was responsible for and helped improve the system as a whole. Tools and Languages: .NET, C#, Linked Entity, NUnit, XUnit, SQL, TFS, Azure DevOps, API, MVC, WCF
Software Development Team Lead
I was responsible for a team of roughly ten people that included Business Analysts, Developers and Manual and Automated testers. This team contributed to multiple projects across a wide range of functional areas. As the team lead I oversaw a technical team to deliver software features under tight time pressures on a circular release schedule to support policy programmes. I was required to act on behalf of the team as a subject matter expert providing meaningful information to business based on individual and team analysis. I managed the expectations and relationships of stakeholders and other development teams in order to balance the needs of concurrent projects. I successfully delivered projects using agile methodologies as the team's scrum master running scrums, sprint planning, retrospectives and the Kanban approach. I was responsible for the team's workload, task assignments and deliverables to ensure projects are successfully completed on time as well as estimating project costs and project delivery.
