I started my professional journey in high school. I graduated with an advanced regents diploma and a culinary degree from BOCES. I soon realized cooking and the kitchen were not for me. I applied to numerous colleges and decided to go to SUNY Fredonia. I graduated with honors and a bachelor of arts degree in the four years I attended. I majored in History and minored in Political Science. In addition, I studied Social Studies Adolescent Education. After college I took a different career path when I continued my summer job of Commercial Demolition. I was a laborer for years and worked my way up, learning the profession. I have gotten to a point in my career where I am in charge of crews of 4-8 men. I am the lead man on the demolition side of the many construction job sites that I work on. For example, I was recently in charge of running a job at the Galleria mall. I had 8 men working under me. It was my responsibility to make sure that the men keep working toward our end goal of fully gutting the commercial space in preparation for new construction. Everyday I have to balance communication with the general contractor, electricians, and other tradesmen on the job to make sure that my crew is doing the correct work in a timely manner. I read through blue prints and check in with the general contractor to make sure the scope of work my men are doing is correct and up to par with his specifications. Strong communication with others, and a friendly demeanor, are huge assets of mine. It is also my responsibility to keep track of paperwork for myself and the employees I have working under me. This job has been my main profession over the past 8 years. I have gained many physical as well as interpersonal skills throughout my college experience and my commercial demolition experience.

  Commercial demolition of large office buildings, retail outlets, and mixed use sites have required me to use skills I learned at college to communicate with different trades, foreman, and general contractors to make sure the job I am running is done efficiently and safely. I bring a hardworking and hands on work ethic to demolition as It is very physically demanding. We will fully gut out commercial spaces in hospitals, malls and offices. I have to work in conjunction with other trades and general contractors to make sure we are demolishing what is required for them to continue with their job. It is also my job to motivate my crew, ensuring that they remains working and are doing so in a timely manner. I refer to blueprints and general contractors notes to make sure that the scope and quality of the work we are doing is what the general contractor desires. I also do selective demolition where certain items such as HVAC units, cabinets, or walls must be removed at the general contractor or customers discretion. During demolition a lot of debris is created and it is often times my responsibility to find the most effective and safe path to removing the debris from the building. With this job a lot of "on the fly" solutions must be utilized, as I need to figure out what is most effective for each individual job. There is no one, "cookie cutter," job site and every space that I perform work on comes with its own mixed bag of challenges to overcome.
