About Samuel Jones

As a member of Tate's leadership team, I am a recognised leader in the sector with particular profile in policy and strategy. I have overseen policy, planning, governance and governmental relations for Tate for eight years and have also led on key areas including the management of Ethics, compliance and crisis management. I have also been responsible for specific policy issues including Brexit planning and, as part of the senior executive team, successful fundraising bids including Spending Rounds and the lift in grant in aid necessary for the operations of the new Tate Modern.

    A member of Tate’s senior executive team, I am responsible for strategy, planning, policy and governance. I work closely with the Trustees, Director and Managing Director to coordinate and manage departments and delivery of key projects across the gallery. I am part of the leadership team which has successfully delivered major capital projects, including the new Tate Modern, and I work with colleagues across the organisation, from curatorial to enterprises and fundraising. In charge of the corporate plan, I set strategy, objectives and KPIs that ensure delivery from all areas. I am also responsible for key areas of compliance, including GDPR and Data Protection, Freedom of Information, and oversight of the Gallery's preparations for Brexit.I am a senior ambassador for the gallery externally, representing it to key stakeholders, public figures and donors. I am responsible for the relationship with Government and, recently, have overseen Tate’s role in the Museums Review and led key initiatives such as spending round bids and the negotiation of museum tax credits. I am also responsible for Tate's Ethics policy and its business and governance. Alongside these operational and political skills, I am an historian and art historian by training, and lead in specific aspects of work on the Collection, primarily due diligence research.Over seven years at Tate, I have worked with and learned from some of the most successful leaders of today, in galleries and the business world, and have successfully led and overseen the transition of Director and Chairman.
