This part-time job involves organising and running various events around the University, such as Open Days and induction for new students. My responsibilities have included leading tours of the University, preparing induction paperwork for new students, engaging with potential students and their families, running induction classes for first year law students and giving addresses to the new law class starting in 2019. My work has continued online throughout the pandemic, which has improved my IT and communication skills. I have also gained skills in public speaking and the organisation of large events.

As part of a second work placement scheme at Greenhead College, I worked with the Labour Party Political Assistant to the Calderdale Council Labour Group. This involved conducting research for the Political Assistant and members of the Cabinet, taking notes during sessions of the Cabinet, meeting members of local industry and drafting documents for the council's hardship initiative. I was also privileged to spend a day working in the office of the Halifax MP Holly Walker-Lynch. Here, I helped members of the public attending constituency surgery and compiled some statistics on local voting patterns in the 2017 General Election. This opportunity allowed me to build on my skills in communication, IT, team work and research. I was also able to develop knowledge of local government and political operations.

As part of a work experience scheme, I worked for a short period in the Human Resources department at Kirklees Council. I provided assistance to those in liaison with local schools, care homes and organisations for young people in care. I also worked on council recruitment campaigns; composing job descriptions and communicating with applicants. Whilst this was only for a short period, the work was demanding and varied. I gained valuable skills in research, IT, communication, professional writing and working as part of a larger team.
