A contracted position of 18 months, primarily located at Rothera research station, Antarctica. The duty of the boating officer were to maintain and service the stations compliment of five ribs (5m to 7.5m in length), provided boat and local area training and familiarisation to station personnel, cox and support station diving operation, cox and support scientific marine surveys, support station air operations and maintain station maritime SAR capabilities, Provide ‘ship to shore’ transport of cargo and Pax when required, provide recreational tours of the local boating area to non-boating personnel. Additionally, to the on water and maintenance schedule, the boating office took lead of any mooring party required for the mooring of ships to the Rothera wharf, including pre-arrival training, Safety and toolbox talks.Boating activities were launched for the side of a wharf, and as such required the use of a tractor and lorry loader (HIAB) crane to get the boat on the water. Occasionally, the boating officer was required to read, update, and write job specific/general risk assessment, standard operating procedures and manuals.
