About Samuel Lu

I am currently a Ph.D candidate at UCSD, and I work in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics. My advisor is Prof. Dusan Keres. I majorly use advanced supercomputer simulations to study the formation and evolution of galaxies and the environment in which they live. In particular, I am interested in the non-thermal processes such as cosmic rays and magnetic fields and their effects on the galaxy. In particular, I am interested in how non-thermal processes such as cosmic-rays (CRs) and magnetic field (B-field) affect the circumgalactic medium (CGM) and star formation history.

    I work in the field of theoretical astrophysics and cosmology. I use computer simulations to study the composition and the dynamics of the Universe. The regimes of my work range from small-scale compact object accretion disks to large-scale cosmological structures such as intergalactic filaments. Besides, I am also interested in plasma physics and fluid dynamics. Till now, I have worked with Omer Blaes, Peng Oh, and Nir Mandellker (a previous KITP fellow, now an assistant professor at the Hebrew University).
