Dr. Mathis is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine in the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine and currently serves as the Associate Program Director of the Medical Student Education Program. He also serves as the Fellowship Director of the Integrative Medicine Fellowship at UTMB and is the current UTMB Employee Health Medical Director. Dr. Mathis earned a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas. He completed training with the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program in Sugarland, Texas. He is currently working on his Masters in Business Administration from Western Governer's University. Dr. Mathis is dual board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Integrative Medicine. He also completed a fellowship with the UTMB Health Integrative and Behavioral Medicine Fellowship program.Dr. Mathis is highly active in medical advocacy for patients and the physicians who serve them. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and most recently, the Texas Medical Association from 2022 to 2024. Dr. Mathis currently serves as the Chair for the American Medical Association's Young Physician Section. When not engaged in patient care, education, or advocacy, Dr. Mathis enjoys spending time with his family, playing music, and reading.
