Coit and Hewes produces rubber and plastic consumables for the nut harvesting industry. Products support tree shakers, sweepers, conditioners, harvesters, elevators, and more. We specialize in rubber compression molding, rubber belting, and polyurethane molding, but also produce fabricated and machined metal components as well as UHMW plastic components.As an engineer for Coit and Hewes, my duties include:Research and development of industry components to determine what products we can support in-house. Design of production process, and tooling, including full design, manufacturing, and retrofitting of equipment to produce products. This includes CNC component machining, automation design and implementation, as well as 3D CNC mold making.I am the only engineer and machinist, therefore I oversee and create my projects completely from idea, to concept, to prototype, then hand them off into full production.

Create parts and/or projects to customer specifications. Fabrication includes various types of cutting material, measuring, making fixtures for holding material, making jigs, welding, machining on mills and lathes, and any other industrial shop duties. Projects varied in size from small quick parts, to large multi-week projects such as farming implements.I also worked in the pump division which installed and tested deep well agricultural pumps. With a team of two others, we operated a 30-ton pump hoist to drop large pumps into wells. Some pumps extended over 400 ft to reach receding water tables. Pumps varied in size with different diameter pipe as well (8" - 12"). Both VFD electric motors, and diesel engines with gear heads were used.During the first several years, I worked in the office as the counter clerk, and assistant to the secretary. Responsibilities included: making sales, writing up jobs, recording customer designs and desires, creating invoices, collecting money and making change, answering phones, running credit cards, looking up parts, diagnosing and finding solutions for customer equipment issues, stocking inventory, ordering parts, etc.

Hogan's designs and manufactures high end intake manifolds for racing applications. They have a vast catalog of engine block, carburetor, and plenum dimensions to accommodate about any engine size and set-up. They have five HAAS CNC mills including 4th axis capability. All manifolds are fabricated from aluminum which includes both machining and welding.My duties included:-Care and maintenance of CNC machines-Operating CNC machines-Machining parts on both lathe and vertical mill (manually, not CNC)-Measuring and recording engine block dimensions-Drafting/Solid Modeling using Solidworks-Finish work (deburring, cleaning, quality checking)-Generating G code for CNC
