Biological mass spectrometry and IMS-MS of proteins and complexes, with a focus on the effect of solution additives on the gas-phase properties of protein ions. More recently, development of a charge detection mass spectrometry (CDMS) system for the measurment of the charges, masses, and (in the near future) sizes of large (in excess of 1 MDa MW) ions. Potential applications include polymers, viruses, and nanoparticles.

Grad Student in David Clemmer lab. Thesis Title: "Understanding and Utilizing the Gas Phase Structures of Biomolecules with Ion Mobility Spectrometry and Multidimensional Ion Mobility Spectrometry".Development of novel ion mobility techniques and instrumentation for the analysis of biomolecules and biomolecular mixtures. Designed, built and got running the first ever circular IMS device for theoretically limitless resolution.
