Samuel is currently studying an MPhil in piano performance at the University of Queensland on a full APA scholarship. Recent performances include The Australian Piano Duo Festival, The UQ Global Leadership Series, the reopening of the Brisbane City Hall, Musica Viva, Restrung Festival, and performances at GoMA and MONA (Tasmania). As a founding member of new music ensemble, Nonsemble, Samuel has played alongside Sigur Ros and Beck at Harvest Festival, presented at TEDx and was featured on New York’s influential “I Care if You Listen” mixtape on two occasions. Nonsemble's much anticipated second EP, Go Seigen vs. Fujisawa Kuranosuke, was released through the London based record label, Bigo & Twigetti.Also increasingly in demand around Australia as a solo and ensemble singer, Samuel is currently a member of Queensland’s only professional vocal consort, The St Stephen’s Schola. Recent engagements include performances with the Adelaide Chamber Singers (2013 Choir of the World), The Song Company (as a Sprogis Woods Smith Festival Fellowship Young Artist at the Canberra International Music Festival), a debut solo performance with orchestra conducted by Andrew Griffiths (Stile Antico, English National Opera) and performances at the World Symposium on Choral Music in Seoul, South Korea. Samuel has received a bursary from the Dartington Foundation to spend two weeks at the Darlington International Summer School (Devon, England) studying with Dame Emma Kirkby, Carolyn Sampson and Nicholas Clapton. With a keen interest in new music, Samuel co-hosted a radio show on 4ZZZ digital programing the latest in alternative and underground classical music with composer, Chris Perren. As a composer, he has placed in the ASME (Australian Society of Music Educators) ‘Young Composer of the Year’ on two occasions. With a passion for youth arts education, Samuel also directs music on Summer SMADD, a creative arts camp for high school students and tutors music in Papua New Guinea.
