Baracoda is the parent group of Kolibree and this role was a continuation of my previous one. I led a team focused on developing a generic cross-platform IoT development framework, to support Baracoda's strategy of replicating Kolibree's success accross different verticals while minimising time to market. This framework capitalized on technology previously developed at Baracoda including what I worked on at Kolibree while incorporating several novel ideas and features. I am passionate about using technology to solve real-world problems and took pride in leading the engineering efforts that brought Kolibree's revolutionary smart toothbrush to life.I built and led a high performing team of 35 engineers with 6 different fields of expertise: embedded, iOS, Android, backend, frontend, and Unity game development.In 4 years we shipped 4 new toothbrush models under the Colgate brand and two new apps, and we maintained and incrementally improved existing systems. We also fully refactored the backend from a monolith to microservices running on Kubernetes and using Terraform IaC in anticipation of high scaling needs expressed by our client Colgate.We adopted best practices for software design, devops, security, and for the development process, drawing inspiration mainly from two books: Accelerate by Forsgren et al, and the PPP by Robert Martin. I championed a bottom up culture with high engagement from all team members. I was deeply involved in architecture work. I also managed communication with stakeholders internally and at our exclusive client Colgate.

As the first engineer at Kolibree and later the lead developer for embedded, iOS and Android teams I worked on most aspects of our smart toothbrush ecosystem: embedded software, iOS and Android app development, toothbrush tracking algorithm r&d, backend API design, etc. I was involved in all aspects of overall system design, and most of my own development was related to embedded software and Bluetooth networking. We shipped 2 toothbrush models and two mobile apps (adults and kids) under the Kolibree brand. Then Kolibree entered in an exclusive partnership with Colgate and we shipped two additional toothbrush models under the Colgate brand and fully redesigned the apps. What I am most proud of:* Championed best practices such as continuous integration, SOLID design, MVVM app development * Created a framework for embedded system development based on hierarchical state machines utilizing a system wide event bus to communicate* Implemented a deep neural network algorithm on a Cortex M4 microcontroller with 64kB of RAM* Designed and implemented a AES encrypted Bluetooth over the air upgrade system in a bootloader with 16kB code space* Designed and led the implementation of a backend synchronization mechanism to support our app's feature complete offline mode
