Biographical SketchDr. Samuel Tabachnik received his Ph.D. in Social Clinical Psychology in 1985 from the Wright Institute in Berkeley. Since that time he has worked for ten years in El Centro de Salud Mental (later, Casa Del Sol) La Clinica de la Raza, in East Oakland.He began his private practice while at the clinic in 1983. As a clinical Psychologist in private practice he has worked clinically doing psychotherapy with individuals, couples, families and groups. He has a diverse practice serving a wide range of ethnicity, social-economic levels and diverse clinical populations. He has participated in the training of masters and doctoral interns, supervised licensed clinicians and consulted in the areas of multicultural families, migration/adaptation issues, ethnic identity, Latino families/clinical issues, Jewish families/clinical issues, cultural sensitivity, multilingualism in therapy and systemic thinking.He has worked evaluating individuals for disability, functional capacity and worker’s compensation issues for injured workers. Has been consulted for legal cases evaluating individuals and families for immigration issues, work related issues such as disability and apportionment of mental health damage. Throughout his years of practice he has worked with victims of trauma in many different settings. He worked with collateral victims of the Loma Prieta Earthquake. A couple of years later he worked with several families coping with the aftermath of the firestorm in the Berkeley Oakland area. He himself was a survivor of that event. He has worked with individuals and families victims of oppression, political persecution, and torture. Also related to the issue of trauma is his extensive work with victims of sexual and physical abuse as well as with perpetrators.Dr. Tabachnik is member of the American Family Therapy Academy and the Association of Family Therapists of Northern California.
