InternSilver Thomas Hanley (Sth) May 2019 - Aug 201938 Gawler Place Adelaide SaSilver Thomas Hanley is a national and international architecture healthcare design practice, with 100 specialist healthcare design staff. I did my placement with the Adelaide branch of Silver Thomas Hanley for four months. The Adelaide office of Silver Thomas Hanley is relatively small with about ten employees that work out of an office on Gawler Place in the CBD.During my time at Silver Thomas Hanley, I primarily conducted defects inspections, with a member of the Silver Thomas Hanley team. We conducted these inspections on the new Calvary Hospital being built in the CBD of Adelaide. The defects inspections were conducted on a PC tablet format platform called OmTrak. This was done by using the room ID, followed by a description of the defect and a photo which assists in locating the defect within the room.Several room typologies were inspected:Clinical areas ranging from highly technical areas such as operating theatres, sterile cleaning services department, scrub bays and recovery bays. These areas are highly technical, requiring specialist services such as medical gases, radiation equipment, specialised mechanical venting, etc. They also require a high finishing standard from an infection control perspective.Less technical are areas such as administrative rooms, amenities rooms and public areas. These areas whilst less technical still require a good standard of finishing.Apart from inspections, I participated in the discussions associated with issues on site and new design coordination of architecture and structure. -
Vacation Employment StudentDepartment Of Planning, Transport And Infrastructure (Dpti) Dec 2017 - Feb 201877 Grenfell St, Adelaide Sa 5000I worked at the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) for nine weeks, where I worked in the Safety and Service Division. As part of my role, I was given the task of assessing all the rural crossings in South Australia, which was over 700 crossings. I observed their sight distances and their compliance with Australian Standards. After this, I determined if the level crossings were to be closed, upgraded, or maintained. These results were then given to my supervisor. I also assisted with work involving the highways in the same division. I assessed the shoulder on both sides of the Eyre Highway for the South Australian components, which was about 950km.
