As my role as a Senior technician with Sandvik Coromant, I am involved in the daily testing and prototyping of a range of Solid Carbide drill, taps and reamers for the cutting industry. My duties include:- The undertaking and development of cutting tool tests to gather data as accurately and efficiently as possible for both engineers and sales staff. - The inspection and measurements of all tools both prior to machining using range of measuring techniques including manual inspection from drawings, helicheck measurements and the use of an Alicona.- The post inspection of machined parts to check the quality of the holes for various features using a variety of gauges and the use of a CMM.- The undertaking of workshop maintenance and improvements to ensure that testing can be performed accurately and with minimal delay.- The researching of new technology to improve the quality of data gathered and to improve the efficiency of the testing procedures. The overall view is to automate section of the measuring and testing procedure to increase the amount of testing capability and lights out machining. - Regular undertaking of safety activities including 5s, development of standard operating procedures and risk assessments to ensure all staff operate in a safe and according manor.

As a production engineer at Pegler Yorkshire, I was involved daily with the continuous improvement, maintenance and integration of new and existing manufacturing processes for the mass production of a large range of brass valves and fittings for the plumbing industry. Key projects include: - the transport and recommission of an automated rotary transfer machine to increase the volume of Tectite fittings which could be produced in the cell. The project included designing and trialling a full compliment of tools to manufacture current and new products on the machine, the specification and integration of a new wash plant, specifying tooling layouts to reduce overall setting and changeover time, a full suite of new programs at optimum machine data and the training of production operatives on the new controls and robotic loading system.- the design and commission of a tooling to assemble a new style of radiator valve. This project saw me working closely with the production operatives to integrate the automated assembly of the Terrier 3 radiator valve onto an existing machine. This valve design was radically different to that of any of the pre-existing products, so time was regularly spent with the production operatives to fully understand how the machine operated while tooling was being designed. As I gained and understanding of the machine, I was able to determine where majority of time was lost on current products and subsequently was able to engineer this issues out while I designed the new tools. The project was very successful, with my tooling design being the most efficient set on the machine. This eventually led on to me performing an overall improvement activity on the existing tooling to reduce the downtime and rework required. Other activities involved: production of standard operating procedures, site maintenance, staff training, ordering of equipment and the conducting of site tours to external parties.

I gained employment at GL Filtration during my apprenticeship with DETA2000. My initial responsibilities with this firm was the fitting and assembly of a range of chemical mixing and drying machines. This role developed further when I took an interest into the machining shops and began to shadow the operators. I quickly developed my knowledge on the various CNC lathes and milling machines and eventually migrated there fulltime to began the manufacture of the various components. During this time, I began to implement 5s techniques to improve the efficiency and safety in the machine shops.I was regularly employed by this firm during the summer holidays while I was studying for my undergraduate degree. Key projects include:-The recommission of the a CNC milling machine, including the manufacture of an aluminium swarf and drip tray.- The planning and setting up of a new machine shop
