I am a recent University of Oregon graduate working as a Tax Accounting Intern in Eugene Oregon. Though I work in accounting, my educational background is in economics, with a particular interest in international development and emerging markets. I am a native of the Pacific North West and love the thriving entrepreneurial culture of sustainability and the drive to make a social impact. I enlisted in the military at 19, leading me to spend three years in beautiful Anchorage, Alaska where I enjoyed the opportunity to experience glaciers and wildlife in the nation's northernmost state. My time in Alaska imprinted upon me a deeper appreciation and commitment to nature and sustainability. I left the military with no distinct plans but an urge to return to complete my education. In September 2017, I began my Economics major at the University of Oregon, having taken a keen interest in international development and macroeconomics after watching a series of TED Talks with Swedish Physician Hans Rosling. My economics major allowed me to gain hands-on experience in studying economics through data, using the open-source statistical programming language R and R Studio. In January 2019, I began working as a Tax Accounting Intern at Besemann Valentine LLP in Eugene Oregon, where my primary responsibilities involve individual and business tax preparation, data entry, and assisting in the preparation and review of financial statements. Most recently I have begun my graduate education with the Lundquist College of Business. I intend to shift from a focus of analyzing past performance to a mission of accelerating innovation as I embark on a career pivot from accounting and taxation to impact investing and venture capital.
