Our research project was focused on developing a quantitative analysis method for the extraction of polyphenolic compounds found in apple peels. The data was collected and analyzed by GC/MS, HPLC and UV-Vis. One of the major parts of this research was problem solving using these instruments. We focused on data analysis in order to separate similar compounds from one other and identifying peaks based on their chromatogram and retention times for HPLC and UV-Vis and MS library for the GC/MS. This involved figuring the methodology of extraction of these polyphenolic compounds from the apple while also creating a working method for each of the instruments. For each instrument this involved the use of getting the substances from the apple in solution and in some cases finding new ways to make some compounds more volatile. Our goal was to find a marketable method for analysis of apples that could detect the polyphenolic compounds in the largest combined concentration that where extracted.

I was responsible for anywhere from 3 - 20 employees. I was often asked to train new employees and help out with the daily assignments. I was in charge of closing and sometimes opening the store, including locking the doors, counting the register tills, and creating the deposit for the next day. We had a safe on site which during the holiday seasons, I was in charge of keeping register tills at an appropriate balance during store hours. I was also responsible for creating and sending out shipments for different materials in the store. Often times I was responsible for dealing with customer service issues and the organization of the store will change depending on the seasons. My personal goal was to elevate the store and those around me, which I feel I was successful at as I had one of the top three sales on a regular bases and created lifelong friends.
